A variety of events are planned for the last week of November.

GREAT FALLS – Great Falls College MSU is celebrating Native American Heritage Month with a variety of events planned for the last week of November.

"The goal of our Native American Month celebration is to elevate the importance of cultural understanding and to help all of our students be aware of other cultures," said Joshua Archey, Student Activities Coordinator at GFC MSU.

The schedule of events for Native American Heritage Month at Great Falls College MSU, 2100 16th Ave. S., includes:

  • Monday, Nov. 27, 11 a.m. to noon – Documentary screening of "Wolf Point: Red Road Stories" in room B101. This critically acclaimed movie was filmed on the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Indian Reservation in northeastern Montana. It features the perspectives of Assiniboine tribal members, whose stories, memories and commentary convey their knowledge of cultural history and their concern for their tribe and its future.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 28, noon to 1 p.m. – Traditional Native Games hosted by Student Government in the cafeteria.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 28, 1:30 p.m. – Native American Studies instructor Don Fish will give a presentation on "dispelling the stereotypes and biases through philosophy and dialogue" in room B101.

  • Friday, Dec. 1, 1 p.m. – Turquoise Devereaux and MJ Desrosier, of TRIO-Upward Bound at the University of Montana, will give a presentation on "Historical and Intergenerational Trauma of Native Americans." Their talk will include a timeline from the indigenous era to present day while focusing on trauma and how it influences Indian country today.

All Native American Heritage Month events are free and open to the public.
