GREAT FALLS – Great Falls College MSU will hold a low-pressure and third class steam boiler training Sept. 12-15.

"This class is designed for people who work somewhere that has a boiler and they need to learn to operate it," said Heather Palermo, director of Lifelong Learning at GFC MSU.

Montana state law requires boiler operators to be licensed by the state, explained instructor Chris Hahn. Boilers in private homes are not regulated by the state, but those in public buildings, such as schools, hospitals and large apartment buildings, are state regulated and require licensed operators.

Hahn is now retired but spent his career working with boilers. He has a first class boiler license, meaning he can operate any kind of boiler.

The class covers low pressure and third class boilers.

Following the three-day class, participants will complete 40 hours of supervised on-the-job training before completing their steam boiler licensing through the state.

The cost of the course is $399 and includes the required book. The deadline to register is Aug. 28.
